10 Sports News Website Examples Built with Ghost
These ten sports news websites use Ghost to publish soccer reporting, basketball news, college sports coverage, and fantasy football analysis. Each example shows how the publisher organizes its coverage and presents it on the homepage.
We selected the sites from our customer showcase. Nine use Tripoli, showing how publishers adapt the same theme through branding, navigation, and story selection. Legendary Upside uses Penang, with an introduction and signup form above the articles.
We checked the live sites and captured these screenshots in September 2026. Visit each publication for its latest design and coverage. Customer additions, such as statistics pages or external tools, may require work beyond the theme.
Backheeled
Backheeled covers American soccer, with navigation for MLS, USL, and the U.S. men’s national team. Those links give readers a direct route to their area of interest before they start browsing stories.
The homepage balances a large lead story with smaller articles and a latest-news column. Free and paid labels show which stories require a subscription before readers open an article.

Sounder at Heart
Sounder at Heart publishes news, opinion, and analysis about the Seattle Sounders and Seattle Reign.
Its navigation extends beyond articles to depth charts, salary-cap information, standings, statistics, and schedules. Fans can consult those resources between matches. On the homepage, large photographs sit alongside the latest reporting.

BasketEurope
BasketEurope covers French and European basketball through news, interviews, and videos. Its navigation highlights competitions and transfers, while homepage sections collect related coverage.
The compact news feed fits several headlines beside a large feature story. Short updates and longer reporting share the homepage, with the lead photograph drawing attention to the selected story.

HBCU Fan
HBCU Fan covers sports at historically Black colleges and universities. Its navigation includes schools and conferences alongside football, men’s and women’s basketball, and track and field.
Readers can browse by institution or by sport. The homepage also shows publication dates and source names with stories, helping readers identify where an update comes from.

R1S1
R1S1, also branded Wave the Wheat, covers University of Kansas athletics. Its sports navigation ranges from football and basketball to volleyball, baseball, golf, and swimming.
The blue accents and masthead give the coverage a shared identity, while sport labels distinguish the stories. The screenshot places a football story in the center, with volleyball and basketball coverage beside it.

SixOneFive Soccer
SixOneFive Soccer covers soccer in Nashville, including Nashville SC. Its navigation separates analysis, match recaps, roster moves, statistics, standings, and podcasts.
Someone checking a transfer can go straight to roster moves, while someone reviewing a match can choose a recap or analysis. The bright blue accent runs through the navigation, buttons, and story labels.

Northland Soccer Journal
Northland Soccer Journal brings professional, women’s, college, high-school, and non-league soccer into one regional publication.
Its navigation gives those competitions their own links. Photo galleries appear alongside match previews and recaps, so the publication includes both reporting and images from local games.

MIR97 Media
MIR97 Media covers the Chicago Fire, MLS, and other soccer stories. News, analysis, match coverage, transfers, and podcasts have dedicated navigation links.
The homepage presents podcast episodes alongside written reporting, with category labels and contributor names. Readers can discover either format from the same feed.

Pitchside US covers MLS, Concacaf, and U.S. soccer through reporting and analysis.
The screenshot gives the lead photograph plenty of space, supported by a headline and short summary. Smaller stories remain visible on either side, with a compact latest-news list on the right.
